Sure Ka, Anak?

There was a time when going out with one of my children wasn’t something we had to plan weeks in advance. It simply happened. This was one of those ordinary days.

My youngest son, Tenten, asked me to go watch a movie with him. We usually had Yeye with us whenever we went out, but she had a class that day and couldn’t join.
I looked at him, slightly surprised, and asked: “Sure ka, anak? Tayong dalawa lang? Wala si Yeye…”
He grinned and blurted out:
“Oo, Ma. Basta hindi ako magho-holding hands sa ’yo and hindi ako aakbay. Tapos magkalayo tayong maglalakad. Baka mapagkamalan na jowa kita!” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Inside the mall, on our way to the cinema, he took his comedy act very seriously. He looked back at me and whispered: “Diyan ka lang, Mama. Susunod ka sa akin.”
I couldn’t stop laughing right there in the middle of the hallway while taking a video of him completely pretending not to know me.
(Yes… the photo below came straight from that hilarious video!)
After the movie ended, as we finally walked out of the theater doors into the crowd, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and shouted at the top of his voice:
“NANAY KO PO ITO!” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Ordinary Afternoons, Extraordinary Memories
Quality time doesn’t always require grand, expensive plans. Sometimes, it’s just a simple, spontaneous movie date.
Sometimes it’s laughing so hard in public that real tears start rolling down your cheeks, causing your child to joke, “Mama, baka sabihin ng mga tao inaaway kita!”
Looking back today, those ordinary, unstructured afternoons became some of my most extraordinary memories. Each of my children has a completely different, unique way of showing their love for me. Each season of their lives brought a different kind of laughter into our home. And every single simple date became a treasure I’ll always deeply cherish.

⏳ Author’s Note (2026)
Looking back now, I realize it wasn’t really about the movie we watched that afternoon. It was simply about being together.
Those spontaneous, last-minute invitations eventually became much harder to come by as the years rolled on—not because the love disappeared, but because life grew busier for all of us as they stepped into adulthood.
That’s why I treasure these specific snapshots even more today. Sometimes, the tiny, joyful moments we never planned end up becoming the ones we remember the longest.

Every now and then, I open an old journal and find a little piece of myself I had forgotten. πŸ‚Some make me laugh. Some make me wonder. Some remind me of how far I’ve come. These pages are not simply a collection of old journal entries. They are little pieces of a journey—thoughts I once wrote down, stories I may have forgotten, and moments that meant something to me at the time. And sometimes, the woman I am today has something to say to the woman I was then. So you may find a little note from Present Lelen along the way—a reflection, a little context, or perhaps just a gentle “I understand now.” I’m keeping these memories here not because they’re profound, but because they were once part of my story.

Dear old me… what were you thinking? πŸ€”

🚢🏻‍♀️Take a little walk with me through the years.

You never know what we might find there.
