The Cellphone, The Rainbow and a Nanay’s Sermon

 October 18, 2017

After getting her annual allowance, Yeye bought a laptop for herself; said she needed it for her SP/thesis. The laptop which her eldest brother passed on to her was getting “inefficient” already.

Aside from the laptop, one of her priorities was to have her iphone repaired. I think the laptop was secondary. It’s been months and her hope was high that it can be restored. Still functioning but no backlight, not LCD tho, as per technician, “kelangan pong palitan ang ‘ic light’, mga 5-7 days.”

Yeye’s mindset was ‘she was willing to wait until done that day.’

She said, “Okay na po, Ma, na wag na muna ipaayos.”

I felt the frustration and sadness in her eyes - no talks, no smile, ‘no life’.

On our way home, we were quiet. Not like us, I thought. Then, we saw a rainbow in front of us. That was my cue!

Rainbow on the road going home. Momlen family story

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW IS A SILVER LINING... 🌈”, I said, and so on and so forth... (kung ano lang maisip 🀣)

Sometimes, life doesn’t give us what we were hoping for.

But if we keep staring at the closed door, we might miss the blessing that’s already in our hands.

That day, Yeye didn’t get the repaired iPhone she had been hoping for.

But she went home with a brand-new laptop.

So yes… I gave my usual Nanay sermon.

“Huwag nang namnamin ang lungkot sa mga bagay na hindi nangyari kung puwede namang maging masaya sa ibang bagay.”

Then, just to make sure she knew I hadn’t become too serious…

“Kung mayaman lang ako, bibilhan kita ng bago.”

Joke!

Neknek mo! πŸ˜‚❤️

LESSON:

Related man o hindi sa rainbow, ang gusto kong ipahatid ay wag nang namnamin ang lungkot sa mga bagay na hindi nangyari kung pwede namang maging masaya sa ibang bagay.

“O di masaya ka sa bago mong laptop! Ganun lang yun!” πŸ˜€πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚❤️

Every now and then, I open an old journal and find a little piece of myself I had forgotten. πŸ‚Some make me laugh. Some make me wonder. Some remind me of how far I’ve come. These pages are not simply a collection of old journal entries. They are little pieces of a journey—thoughts I once wrote down, stories I may have forgotten, and moments that meant something to me at the time. And sometimes, the woman I am today has something to say to the woman I was then. So you may find a little note from Present Lelen along the way—a reflection, a little context, or perhaps just a gentle “I understand now.” I’m keeping these memories here not because they’re profound, but because they were once part of my story.

Dear old me… what were you thinking? πŸ€”

🚢🏻‍♀️Take a little walk with me through the years.

You never know what we might find there.
