When Emotions Get in the Way

Last Thursday, after a church activity, a friend and I were chatting when, all of a sudden, she became teary-eyed.

And then she said something like: “Okay na, Tita Lelen, maiiyak na ako talaga,” before walking away.

I didn’t know what she was going through. So while driving home that evening, I prayed for her.

And somehow, that conversation brought me back to something I had written almost eight years ago.

An early morning thought (6am)…

When I do a little counseling, I sometimes get emotional for whoever I am talking or listening to—whether they are friends, acquaintances, or even someone I barely know—and my judgment may become clouded.

I remind myself:

Stop and pray! πŸ™πŸΌ

Last Sunday, before going to mass…

Tenten: in another car, waving and pointing to the sky

Yeye: in another car with me, giving the sign of “Oo, kita ko!”

Me: taking picture

“This is MY promise to you!” — a promise of hope for all the people who trusted me with their stories.

I can listen without assuming. I can care without trying to fix everything. And I should trust God with someone’s story that I was never meant to carry myself.

Eight years later, I am still learning. πŸ™πŸΌπŸ’™

Every now and then, I open an old journal and find a little piece of myself I had forgotten. πŸ‚Some make me laugh. Some make me wonder. Some remind me of how far I’ve come. These pages are not simply a collection of old journal entries. They are little pieces of a journey—thoughts I once wrote down, stories I may have forgotten, and moments that meant something to me at the time. And sometimes, the woman I am today has something to say to the woman I was then. So you may find a little note from Present Lelen along the way—a reflection, a little context, or perhaps just a gentle “I understand now.” I’m keeping these memories here not because they’re profound, but because they were once part of my story.

Dear old me… what were you thinking? πŸ€”

🚢🏻‍♀️Take a little walk with me through the years.

You never know what we might find there.
